Who

I am a writer, teacher, artist and parent who believes our personal and universal pursuit of truth and authenticity will activate change in the world.

After finding myself on the mat in one of Trish Whelan’s retreats, I was deeply moved by the transformative capacity of Shamanic Kundalini Yoga (SKY), which led me to become certified. This practice has the capacity to melt away old stories and patterns. It welcomes the body and nervous system to feel more grounded and at peace while awakening greater clarity. The combination of movement, breath work and music without dogma meets you were you are and inspires lasting change.

In my offering, I combine the SKY practice with over a decade of experience teaching writing workshops. I aim to support people in remembering their innate wholeness and unlocking their unique creativity.

My life’s work thus far has been centered around deep inquiry and conversation in order to awaken change, connection and growth. SKY offers us the tools to go within for the answers so that we can be the fullest expression of our unique selves in the world.

Currently based in Los Angeles, California, I offer in-person and online group classes, programs and retreats here and elsewhere around the world. Private offerings that are tailored to your goals are available as well. As a queer, non-binary/trans person, I am excited to create spaces that are welcoming, inclusive and inspiring to all individuals.

Additionally, I am passionate about peace and justice. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for Amplify Arts Project and will donate 5% of proceeds from each offering towards scholarships for Amplify’s incredible creative arts and music programming for female-identifying and non-binary youth.

This is a potent time on our planet, and coming together to practice SKY is a powerful tool for clearing away what is no longer aligned and making room for the new. The world is ready for us to create fresh ways. Truth is the thing that will craft the future. I look forward to connecting with you to share this uniquely restorative and inspiring experience.

What

Shamanic Kundalini Yoga (SKY) is the ancient and future-facing practice of Kundalini yoga taught through the universal lens of Shamanism. Working with the elements and forces of Nature, this offering welcomes us to meet ourselves on the mat and supports the movement of energy through yoga, meditation and breath work. Practitioners are invited to connect with self, lineage and community in a manner that activates a beautiful alchemy far beyond the mat. It is a potent time on our planet right now, and the SKY practice provides a framework within which we can ground ourselves and identify how best to be of service to the evolution of ourselves and our world.

Where

I live on stolen land originally and still inhabited and cared for by the Chumash, Tongva (Gabrieleño) and Fernandeño Tataviam people in Los Angeles, California. I honor and pay respect to their elders and descendants ─ past, present, and emerging ─ as they continue their stewardship of these lands and waters. I commit to decolonizing myself and my work with ongoing dedication.

Why

I am committed to working towards a world in which individuals of every race, ethnicity, gender, ability, sexuality, age, and geography, have access to environments—personal, professional and creative—that support full self-expression and in which all people have equitable protection and freedoms in all realms of life.

How

I believe that by engaging in open, honest dialogue, conscious movement, and community building, we can advance the revolution we wish to see within ourselves and then in the world.

When

The time is now to be the change we wish to see in the world. I look forward to connecting with you.

"Sam’s classes have been a true gift during this time. Their deep understanding of the practice together with their clear and supportive guidance creates a space where I can reconnect with myself. I always leave feeling greater clarity and deeply restored. Sam has a true reverence for the teachings, and it is reflected in their classes. I highly recommend their offerings to anyone seeking a transformative, consciousness shifting experience."

"Sam has a profound gift for holding space. I always feel completely safe and supported in their classes, which allows me to go deep into the practice and truly release what no longer serves me. Sam’s genuine compassion and wisdom shine through every breath.

Sam guides me through each exercise with clarity and encouragement, and I always leave feeling incredibly vitalized and centered. Sam’s music choices and playlist for each class inspire me, and add to the energy and healing I feel each session.

Every class with Sam is a gift! I feel so much lighter and more grounded in my body, mind and spirit, and eagerly await my next class."

"I took my first kundalini yoga class with Sam at a time when I was seeking a deeper connection with my body. Unlike other yoga classes that have left me feeling disconnected and stuck in my head trying to perfect the movements, Sam’s class helped me anchor into my heart. They create a non-judgmental environment where every body and level is safe, welcomed, and celebrated. I especially love how they take the ancient wisdom of this practice and offer modern applications for me to take into my daily life. Their deep, meditative approach always leaves me feeling calm, connected, and strong. Whether you are curious about yoga, or you are more advanced in your practice, this is the class for you."
